Plushie Dreadfuls - Lipedema Bunny - Plush Stuffed Animal

 

Lipedema is a painful condition that affects the distribution of fat cells in the body, concentrating mainly in the lower half, usually the legs and sometimes spreading up to the torso. Even a gentle touch or squeeze of the leg is often enough to send someone with this condition screaming. Exercise is painful, often making the condition worse. 

Lipedema is also highly resistant to any form of dieting and exercise, making those with it have to endure a lot of emotional abuse and criticism for not being able to lose weight starting from a young age. This can lead  to many mental health problems including depression and disordered eating. 

Let this plushie be both a comfort for sufferers, and a reminder to those unaware of the condition that it exists! And someone else's weight is not a stick for you to hurt them under any circumstances, lipedema or no. There's no shortage of unsolicited advice, so spend your time and energy on something more positive.

Note: We are aware that not everyone with lipedema has the same distribution, and there are limitations to what we can do on a cute plushie and is a compromise between many different expressions of lipedema while still being an emotional support plush to all!

We collected feedback from multiple social media platforms as well as consulting people struggling with the condition.

Flowers in the ears for blocking out constant criticism for an undiagnosed condition

Plush celery for the need to constantly be seen eating "Correct" foods or people will criticize your eating as the reason for the condition. 

IMPORTANT NOTE Regarding the design of our Plushie Dreadfuls. We take these topics seriously. That's why our design team only creates plushies related to issues with which they have direct experience. In cases where our team does not have direct experience, we assemble an external team of experts to help guide our creative process. In addition, we use Crowd Design to engage a wide range of voices via platforms like Instagram and Facebook. We gather and respond to feedback from our audience - many of whom have direct experience with the issues we're exploring. And while we strive to represent as many aspects of a particular issue as possible while avoiding stereotypical representations, we hope you understand that plush toys as an artistic medium do limit the full expression of a particular issue to those things that can be crafted in fabric and stitching.
